A beautiful smile will not something stick around if you do not take care of your teeth. A lot could go wrong, including stains that could be hard to deal with should they penetrate your dentin; these stains will need to be taken care of by one of our friendly dentists, but you may be able to take care of surface stains with the following tips.

Teeth Whitening Tips

A good Huntersville general dentist will recommend brushing your teeth and flossing after every meal, but sometimes you have to attack some stains directly.

Consider the following:

Baking Soda

One of the easiest things you can do is use baking soda to deal with any stains on the surface of your teeth. Baking soda is mildly abrasive, meaning that it can gently scrub away some of the stains on your teeth. This powder is also a base, meaning that it can neutralize acids like most of the oral pathogens trying to make a home in your mouth.

All you have to do is mix about a tablespoon of water with 1/2 a tablespoon of baking soda, and use the blend as toothpaste.

Turmeric

Another interesting option is to use turmeric for teeth whitening. This spice happens to contain curcumin among other antibacterial properties. These properties help eliminate some of the bacteria that can harm enamel and expose dentin to stain residue in your mouth. Of course, turmeric is also abrasive.

All you have to do is wet your clean toothbrush a little bit, and dip it in about 1/8 tsp of turmeric powder. Brush your teeth with this powder, and let it sit there for about 2 minutes before rinsing it off.

Orange Peel

You can also use the inside of the orange peel. The white area contains vitamin C that should help remove some stains from your teeth as well as kill oral pathogens. Of course, vitamin C is a little strong, so you should not perform this type of whitening more than once a week and always check with your Huntersville general dentist just in case. All you have to do is rub the white part of the orange peel on your teeth, and then brush your teeth as you normally would.

There is always more that you can do to keep your teeth as white as possible, so call our Huntersville cosmetic dentists to see what other safe and effective options you have if you notice that your teeth are simply not as white as you would like.
